My favorite part of design are those moments when you wonder, “what will this look like?” I had that moment recently when Spoonflower challenged me to makeover a small space in my home. What better space to highlight than our fireplace wall and mantel!
This year…. I wanted another quick and easy way to decorate for Halloween so we unleashed a pack of spiders. I happened to have a bunch of these in my stash, but they’re readily available at craft stores and big box stores.
Earlier this fall I was invited to preview some of the Home Depot’s holiday decorations and this rainbow LED beauty caught my eye across the room. Here are the nuts and bolts of the Twinkly tree: it runs off of an app and could not be easier to use. Because the lights are the superstar, I simply hung a bunch of white ornaments to offset the gorgeous rainbow lights!
I have to admit that my mantel game still has a long way to go… I’ve only had a mantel in my life for 5 or 6 holidays. That said, I love this colorful mantel filled with greenery and simple materials from JOANN… so easy to set up and so pretty to look at in our living room.

I still have dreams of mustering up the courage to add built-ins on either side of the fireplace, but for now… this final room makeover made a HUGE difference in making this space a bright and cheerful spot of family movie nights.
Our new house is a lot more interesting to decorate for the holidays than the rental, and this year I am excited to really gussy up the place for Christmas!
