Come See Our (New) Colorful Living Room

Psssst… this post *might* contain affiliate links: see my disclosure here.

When you walk into our new house, the first thing you see is the living room with the sunporch beyond. It’s almost identical in size to the living room at our old house which explains why all the furniture are in the same layout. I believe this is one of the rooms original to the house which explains the low ceiling, but it also brings in some charm. The current state of the room is… we moved in and I plunked down and I hung a bunch of art. I may or may not paint. I had the black and white curtains so hung those on the back wall, but the other window in the room feels a little bare so I could stand to hang curtains here too. There’s a lot going on in here. Like a lot a lot, but… it’s colorful and eclectic and everything my eye rests on makes me happy.

Everytime I share this rug I have to answer the question ‘where did you get that?’ It’s from a local outlet and was likely mislabeled because you would faint if I told you the price. I was nervous it was too bright and colorful when I bought it but… it has become the foundation for every space it’s ever been in and I could not love it more. But also… it’s old and the store is no longer there so… sorry, guys.

I made the striped coffee table for a sponsored post years ago. I don’t really understand the art of coffee table styling, but the table is so busy and graphic that maybe people don’t notice the lack of styling?

My gallery wall of women came to me six years ago when we moved into our last house and wanted something fun for the living room. At first it was a few portraits and since then I’ve added so many more. A few were purchased new but most were thrifted or found at flea markets, etc.

A gallery wall featuring a variety of framed portraits and abstract paintings hangs above a teal side table, a white lamp, and two fuzzy sheep-shaped footstools.

Over the mantel is one of my favorite flea market paintings of all time with all of my favorite colors of all time. On the narrow mantel in front of it are assorted colorful candlesticks. I have the makings of Noah’s Ark in this space with many many animal figurines. I stand by my love for these guys- the pair of giraffes are perched in front of the fireplace and there are many others scattered around the space.

Giant objects are my love language. The giant Cheetos were too good to put in storage so why not display them in my formal living room. The giant pencil was made out of desperation because the original ones I saw were HUNDREDS of dollars and it seemed to me I could make my own with recycled cardboard and craft paint.

Last detail… there’s an old bookshelf next to the fireplace that may or may not have been used for firewood back in the day. I have my rainbow glass, etc. displayed there just to bring in more color to the space.
