Colorful Boys Bedroom Makeover
Psssst… this post *might* contain affiliate links: see my disclosure here.
Adding fun wallpaper and a new bed to my son’s bedroom.
Disclosure: I partnered with Spoonflower for this makeover and we couldn’t be happier with this new improved space!
When we first moved into this house a couple years ago, I tried to give all the kids a bit of a bedroom makeover. Arthur has the smallest room of the kids and had a few specific requests: a map and a recliner. Over time, the recliner lost its luster so we swapped it out for a desk, and then a couple of months ago, he requested a loft bed. Here’s how the room looked when we started:
I’ve partnered with Spoonflower before for both wallpaper and home decor and I never cease to be amazed at the beautiful patterns and designs available on their website. Arthur’s room was no exception!!! Whenever I design a kids’ space, I bring them into the decision making process by giving them a selection of patterns that I love. Spoonflower makes that easy because I create up a collection of any patterns I adore as I’m scrolling through the website. Arthur and I both fell in love with this pattern:
Shop my favorites!
This is a BIG paper so I planned on doing it only on his back wall. (He’s since told me he loves it so much, he wishes it were on every wall in the room!) I prefer Spoonflower’s prepasted removable paper… it’s a little bit shinier than other papers, but it pulls off the wall SO EASILY which is important for kids’ spaces because they change their minds real fast. It’s also important for someone who, hypothetically, has removed 95 miles of wallpaper over at her flip house. Here’s a peak at the wallpaper wall before I installed the new loft bed. Perfection.
I posted a full tutorial for this loft bed over on my YouTube channel so head over there and subscribe. I built it with budget supplies and didn’t get carried away with finishing details like trimming it out so it’s a great beginner build for a weekend project.
These are the textiles we picked out to go with the bed (individually linked below also), but one of my favorite things to do with home decor from Spoonflower is to mix and match patterns because you can LITERALLY find anything in any color. I typically throw everything together onto a vision board to confirm that the scale and colors are working together.
Arthur and I loved the idea of matching his duvet cover to the wallpaper so I ordered a premade duvet here. Because this pattern is so big and bold, I combined it with some more subtle graphic patterns for the curtains (shown here), the sheets (shown here), the throw pillow (shown here), and that cozy minky blanket (shown here).
Arthur loves sitting on his new beanbag chair and reading or listening to a podcast and he LOVES climbing up into his new loft bed. Originally he wanted a hanging chair underneath the loft bed but he’s possibly changed his mind. This little room isn’t the biggest space but it’s plenty big enough for him and he spends lots of time up there which is my favorite.
Since a before and after is always the most fun part of any makeover… here’s a last peek at where we started, and how the room looks now! Feel free to leave me a comment with any questions about this project!
I would be remiss if I didn’t share my previous posts using Spoonflower. They have really become my go-to for all things decor so feel free to click around to see what other projects I’ve done with them!
