Bloggers Heart Habitat and Community Service

Bloggers Heart Habitat is a program I started years ago in order to help new Habitat for Humanity home owners furnish and decorate their space. Habitat does an amazing job providing deserving families with a new house, and my goal was to help transform this house into a HOME.  Sitting around in my living room taking care of my five kids, I knew I didn’t have the time or energy to get as involved as I once did, buuuut…. my blog was all about making colorful and decorated spaces with little to no budget. Why not recruit some talented friends and apply this same skill set to someone else’s home? Bloggers Heart Habitat was born!

Working with brand sponsors and community donations, we help to furnish and decorate using our blogging superpowers: thriftiness, upcycling and vision.  Pairs of bloggers are assigned to each room and via Pinterest, text message and in person meetings, we try to get a sense of the homeowners likes and dislikes. We search for bargains, transform yard sale scores and generally try to get the most bang for our minimal bucks.  In the end, we leave the new homeowners with fully decorated spaces that fit their personality and family’s needs, while relieving some of the stressors of new homeownership.

This concept sas carried on into other community service projects over the years including faculty rooms and a Women and Children’s Shelter out in California. I love being able to bring together my talented friends to bring some warmth and design into community spaces.

Everyone can make a difference!
