I grabbed a tassel basket at Homegoods to organized things in our family room, and I loved that tassel basket so much that I decided I could *EASILY* DIY my own. This was one of those projects that actually wasn’t any cheaper, but it was super easy and it meant that I could get exactly the colors that I wanted.
This old house of ours doesn’t have a ton of storage the way a modern home does. No built-in cubbies, no walk-in front hall closet… nada. We have a small little area inside the back door and *this* is our drop zone for everything. Five kids’ backpacks, boots and more boots, coats, hats, gloves, roller blades, dog leashes, and on and on.
Boots. They were everywhere and taking over my mini-mudroom. At some point, each child has ended up with a pair of rain boots and a pair of snow boots. I LOVE the storage bench I made but two pairs of boots don’t exactly fit in each drawer so they were just scattered around taking up space and cluttering the little bit of room we have in there.
With five kids, we have *stuff* coming out our ears! I give myself a C+ when it comes to organizing and declutter… there’s DEFinitely room for improvement, but I am pretty good and creating systems that the kids can basically follow and, when it comes to organizing for a whole family, that’s a HUGE part of the challenge. Don’t get me wrong… open up a hallway closet and there’s no telling what you might find, but nine times out of ten, there’s a place for every ‘thing.’
