closet makeover

Our main closet got a makeover and it’s so much better! I replaced the wire shelves with melamine, wallpapered the ceiling, changed the lights and the outlets and it’s such a great improvement!

girls bedroom makeover

Our oldest daughter is now in middle school which means she has… opinions. Thankfully she has a great sense of style so her opinions made for a fun chance to work together and update her room a bit! Her favorite color continues to be light purple/ lavender so we continued to work with that.

PPG Timeless has smooth one-coat coverage and is available online or exclusively at your local Home Depot. I will DEFinitely be using this paint again for future projects. I was beyond impressed with how easy it was to use and how well it covered. Anything that will save me multiple coats and is stain resistant is ALWAYS a good thing!

How to Make a Colorful Tassel Blanket

detail tassel blanket

I’ve never showed our entire master bedroom because… well, because it’s not great.  I added a new headboard and framed some amazing flea market art for above the bed so one angle looked cute, but the whole room… no bueno. But then I got the itch to make a blanket with giant colorful tassels and I figured it might be the perfect way to bring the rest of the space together.

Creating a Kids Reading Nook

reading nook makeover

When we moved into the rental house, the kids were thrilled to discover this cute little room off of Martha’s bedroom. We called it the secret nook and it quickly got “moved into” which is code speak for piles and piles of toys were brought into the space. It didn’t help matters that the walls were an inexplicably harsh shade of red.

I had SO much fun taking you along as I figured ou I had SO much fun taking you along as I figured out the furniture situation in our bedroom this morning. I fall into the same trap of scrolling through Instagram and feeling insecure about all the perfect polished homes, but I try to remind myself that behind every perfect polished space is someone dragging furniture around and putting holes in their walls saying “hmmm.... let’s see how this looks there?” I also learned that you all have strong opinions about pictures of your kids in your bedroom. 😜 Also the pronunciation of chaise is wrong on Google. I’ve also learned that this week. Thanks for all your great suggestions today and for helping me brainstorm some layout options. What is one thing you’ve held off doing in your own home? Paint? Hanging art? Curtains?

AD: The sun sets real early these days which means AD: The sun sets real early these days which means I am always on the lookout for quick and easy ways to entertain my kids. Do I remember the darkness sets in early and plan ahead? No. No I do not. But thanks to @armandhammer Recess, I was able to find a bunch of fun, easy activities that entertain my kids using things I have around the house. Arthur and I made modeling clay with Arm & Hammer Baking Soda. It has a wonderful smooth consistency which we loved. We gathered things around the house to see what sort of imprint they would make (forks, potato masher, patterned glasses, a bumpy bowl... ) and turned the clay into ornaments! Searching for items was Arthur's favorite part and I had to gently reject things like a hair brush or the dog's paw! We had to learn how hard to press down on the dough and experimented with how thick to roll the dough- lots of great hands-on discovery! The next day the ornaments were mostly dry so we strung them up to make this fun hanging wall decor! Check out my stories to see us make them! #MakeYourBreak #AHRecess #MorePowerToYou
With an empty office around me, I recorded one las With an empty office around me, I recorded one last video in the old house for @homedepot (I’ll leave a link in my stories so you can go listen to the echo! 🤦🏼‍♀️). This hanging wood pet organization station- say that 10 times fast- doubles as a plant stand in the new house. I had to find a spot for it because it’s 💯 and I love it. Finally... matching loungewear is now who I am along with reading glasses and Invisalign so I’m feeling pretty dang hawt. As you were, folks. Carry on.

Today was historic as every inauguration is. A rem Today was historic as every inauguration is. A reminder of the gift we all have to be part of democracy that allows for a peaceful transition of power. Today recognized the first woman of color sworn in as Vice President. Absent of people who would typically gather on the national mall, the sea of flags was a reminder of the 400,000+ deaths this year as a result of COVID. And the youngest person to ever read at a presidential inauguration brought down the house. 22-year-old Amanda Gorman painted with her words. She wove a magical cloth of truth and power as she spoke. “We've learned that quiet isn't always peace… And yes, we are far from polished, far from pristine, but that doesn't mean we are striving to form a union that is perfect. We are striving to forge our union with purpose… We lay down our arms so we can reach out our arms to one another. We seek harm to none and harmony for all…We will not be turned around or interrupted by intimidation because we know our inaction and inertia will be the inheritance of the next generation.” Just… wow. #achfamilyroom #mural #banyanbridgesbold #archmural #paintedwall #saynotoemptywalls #paintedmural #diymural
Let’s talk about sexy talk when you’re middle Let’s talk about sexy talk when you’re middle aged. Something like the word “organization” might cause you to flush. Wanna really rev those engines? “Storage bin.” And don’t get me started with the pulse-racing excitement of a good box (@house.of.esperanza am I right?). Today I got all hot and bothered on stories and showed you how we arranged our basement for optimal toy sorting, toy storage and toy enjoyment. This is a family channel so I didn’t want to go to far by mentioning any labels, but those are next! Check out @loveyourabode and @madebycarli for more toe curling stories over on their channels!
