Our Colorful Eclectic Living Room
Psssst… this post *might* contain affiliate links: see my disclosure here.
This living room was the first space in this house I had a plan for and it was the first thing I painted (the ceiling). I still love it the most.

Story time: I know I’ve mentioned on social media, but worth reiterating here- when I first saw our current house, I did NOT like it. It was empty and a little dated and a little cheesy and just not my style. There was no architectural charm. Anywhere. So we looked at like a million other houses and then my very wise agent suggested we come back to this house and I consider what I could do to UNDO the details I disliked. And this living room was the first space I envisioned: a blue ceiling and a gallery wall of ladies. It’s changed a bit over the last 4 years, but not much! (I’ll list all the sources at the end of this post because I know you’ll ask!)
The ceiling is painted in my favorite Behr Jet Ski. I first used this color as an accent wall back in my office in the rental house and I had to use it again. We got the keys to this house, and this ceiling was the first thing I did… I mean, what’s worse than painting a ceiling when the furniture are already set up in the space, right? I brought in those white Ikea shelves and shared a post on styling those here. They’re filled with all my fun thrift scores and tchokes.
How to Style a Bookshelf (Tips from a Photo Stylist!)
Moving over to the bay window, those little armchairs are from an estate sale years ago… I recovered them in that sweet fabric (that I believe I also got at a flea market?)… I’m not entirely sure but I love how they tuck into that window regardless. My fiddle leaf figs are limping along… I neglect them dreadfully as evidenced by the handful of yellow leaves seen throughout.
In earlier pictures of this space, I had a $10 FB marketplace table, but then I had a campaign that allowed me to play around with a little DIY so I made that striped version. It’s a lot, but I love the graphic punch in the middle of the already wild and colorful space! The green couch is no longer sold but it was from… wait for it- IKEA. Yeah. The perfect green, right?! Those side tables are a little big for the space but I got them from my grandmother when she died a couple years ago and have always loved them. She also gave me those wonderful mirrored sconces that are hanging on either side of the flea market painting.
Last but not least is obviously the corner with all my wonderful lady portraits. This is grown and evolved since we moved in and I love how wonderfully full this corner is with artwork. People always ask where these pieces are from and I’ll link to the handful of them that I can below, but… most are from flea market and thrift stores. Some are actually from Homegoods and some were handmade by friends and family. The dresser that’s on that wall cost me $50 at the Restore and you’re gonna want to click the link below to see how it looked when I brought it home. I still cannot believe this is what I ended up with.
How To Strip Paint From Furniture
There are a few other DIYs in this corner. I found that armchair in the corner at the Restore also and loved the shape, but not so much the state of the upholstery. I didn’t have the budget to reupholster so I tried my hand at furniture dye. Spoiler: TOTALLY worked. See how I did that here:
That little pink bench was something I made as part of the One Room Challenge years ago so see how I made that here. A note that upholstery projects usually bring out a very specific type of rage for me… this project was surprisingly bearable so maybe that’s why I love this little bench so much to this day. Ha.

Finally… we have to give the sheep (BaaBaa Streisand) her time in the spotlight. That’s another DIY and I have no explanation for why I decided to make a sheep. I’ve seen lots of them in high end designer spaces and I guess I just loved the unexpected quirky nature of them! So obviously I had to try and make one of my own.

It’s kind of satisfying to go through this room and realize how much of it is one-of-a-kind… either thrifted or DIYed! This space is exactly how I would describe my approach to my style: the intersection of DIY and design. I love that, to me, this space doesn’t feel like a “DIY” space and yet… so many details were made my hand. I also how so many quirky found and inherited treasures live together in this space… the perfect showcase for all my loved objects and collections.
