Halloween Spider Decor

Last year, our skeleton Delores sat by this mantel surrounded by bats. This year…. I wanted another quick and easy way to decorate for Halloween so we unleashed a pack of spiders. I happened to have a bunch of these in my stash, but they’re readily available at craft stores and big box stores.

I started by setting up some thin spider webs across the top of the mantel. Less is more when it comes to faux spider webs. As thin and wispy as possible!! I used little bits of masking tape to secure the web so I could stretch it across the mantel.

The white webs are great, but they don’t make much of a visual impact. So I added that black web as more of a focal point. A giant spider perches next to it creating a foundation for the rest of the mantel.

To avoid feeling too choatic and higglety pigglety, I tried to group same-size spiders together or at least to gradually transition from larger spider to smaller spiders. I set this up once and didn’t love it, so I reorganized the spiders and it feels much better now. I didn’t realize spider arranging was a thing…

Delores stayed upstairs in the attic, but her friend Carl is seated in the corner. I’m now realized I should have given him a boy tie. I don’t think we have a single bow tie in our house but still… that would have been a good addition! I also draped some black cheese cloth over my graphic dollar store wall art just to tone down the bright color a bit.

Confession… those candles have been in the fire place since last year… they work well in both Halloween and Christmas! Although difficult for vacuuming, all those little spiders look so fun skittering along the hearth. I kept thinking of that scene in Harry Potter when the little spiders come running out from the castle walls.
